The Clawdaddy[1] is a foam-covered crab and a recurring enemy in the Yoshi franchise. Their name is a play on 'crawdad,' a name sometimes used for the crayfish. Clawdaddies usually have the ability to enlarge one of their claws and attack with it; they also cannot be eaten and turned into an egg by Yoshi.
History[edit]Yoshi's Island series[edit]Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit]Clawdaddies first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and later in Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3. They inhabit the jungles of Yoshi's Island, and are first encountered in Prince Froggy's Fort. They take three Eggs or a Ground Pound to be defeated. Clawdaddies walk from one side to another on a platform, and rush towards Yoshi upon spotting him; once close enough, they enlarge one of their claws before lunging and pinching, or spinning it around, which knocks Baby Mario off Yoshi on contact. Yoshi's Island DS[edit]In Yoshi's Island DS, they are replaced by a very similar enemy, Crabbles. Yoshi's New Island[edit]A Clawdaddy in Yoshi's New Island Clawdaddies reappear in Yoshi's New Island. When they see Yoshi, they turn bright red and angrily charge at him. Once they reach him or the end of their platform whatever surface they are on, they will attack by rotating their claw briefly. In this game, the foam on a Clawdaddy's body can be removed by licking it or hitting it with an egg, revealing a squarish body underneath. In this state, their movement pattern is similar, though they now slam their claw against the ground to attack, and can be defeated by a single stomp or egg. Ground Pounding defeats them in one hit, regardless of form. A giant Clawdaddy, King Clawdaddy, appears as the boss of World 3. Tetris Attack[edit]Clawdaddy teams up with Froggy during the events of Tetris Attack. Yoshi's Woolly World / Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]A model of a Clawdaddy in Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World Clawdaddies reappear in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, where they mainly populate Clawdaddy Beach. They are now stylized to resemble plaid purses with sewing clippers for claws. When they spot the Yoshi, they take a bigger pair of clippers from their interior to replace one of their claws, then rush towards him in an attempt to attack. There are numerous different ways to defeat a Clawdaddy: jumping on it three times, jumping on it once after stunning it with a Yarn Ball, performing a single ground pound on it, or spitting six watermelon seeds at it. Upon defeat, Clawdaddies give out several beads which are automatically added to the counter. Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]A Clawdaddy in Yoshi's Crafted World Clawdaddies reappear in Yoshi's Crafted World in the level Bombs Away on Pirate Island, where they act like they did in Yoshi's New Island. Poochy Ain't Stupid is an Extra Level of World 1 in the game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its remake Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3. It is unlocked by obtaining the maximum score (100 points) in all levels of World 1, not counting the Secret Level, Exercise in the Skies. The whole level centers around Poochy, and introduces a few new enemies not otherwise encountered in World 1. This level and KEEP MOVING!!!! are the only non-castle levels to have the castle music. Overview[edit]The player starts off in a cave area next to a Winged Cloud, if they go to the right some Fangs will spawn and the screen will start autoscrolling. Not long after the screen starts scrolling there will be a lava pit that can only be crossed by using Poochy, who will be used for the rest of the level. When the player encounters the Bullet Bill they will need to jump up onto the platform and then drop down and land on Poochy who will then continue to ferry the player over the lava. After this, there will be a section with lots of Fangs and Tap-Taps, and after this will be another lava section that has a Spiked Ball rotating above it. After this lava segment, the player must blindly drop down and Flutter Jump to the goal roulette. In the SNES version, the player cannot land on a bonus slot to play the bonus game on the goal ring on this level. The wheel will stay on a win slot for as long as two seconds before advancing slots and less than a half second on a blue dot. Enemies[edit]Names in other languages[edit]
